Upgrading my Talking Ziggy Handheld

I have been upgrading my Ziggy handheld prop from Quantum leap. This time I've been using ChatGPT to allow my to have a conversation with Ziggy. In my previous post here, (you can still download the free files to 3D print your own by the way) I got the prop lighting up and I then went on to use Amazon Alexa Blueprints to build trigger words and phrases to allow the handheld to respond. It worked but it wasn't the best.

I've been trying to integrate ChatGPT into the project to allow me to communicate with Ziggy's handlink in a better way. Through the use of a cheap mini mixing desk thingy I got free from Wish years agao (after collecting enough points), I've also been able to recreate Ziggy's floaty, echoey voice too. The video also features another of my older builds. A few years ago now I worked on building my own telephone network that repurposed decommissioned BT public payphones. Watch on the see what the plan is for my workshop payphone now that the original project has been shelved.

Building a Zoltar Fortune Teller: Part One

I have always thought the mechanical fortune teller machines where a thing of wonder and I've always wondered about making one myself.  I have previously experimented with making a proof of concept miniature version here but as I had some spare time on my hands I decided to scale up to a full sized cabinet. I started by rescuing an old wardrobe that was skipped and used the panels to put together the bottom half of the cabinet. The intention is to have the bottom half collecting the money and dispensing fortune cards, with the top half house Zoltar in a framed enclosure. Morse Code Chat Room

I have recently been attempting to get a few personal projects across the finishing line. My recent efforts have been focused on an online chatroom that I've been developing whereby the users can only message one another via Morse code. This would be a great way to help people learn and practice their Morse.  When a user is connected to the chatroom and they're the only person present, then there is an option to trigger auto-generated massages to help simulate a conversation. I also include a helpful translate button for those users, like myself, who are rather rusty and need a little assistance at times. The online Morse chatroom can be accessed here . Building a Ziggy Handheld

Quantum Leap was an obsession of mine during the 90s and I'm still a huge fan of the show even now. As we'll be off to another comic con shortly, I wanted to try and make another prop to take along to the even and the Ziggy handheld that featured in the original series seemed a great ideas as it would be challenging to make but would be easy to carry around with me on the day. The short video below details how it was made with downloadable resources further down this page. The first thing I did was to pull up some reference material in the form of screenshots that clearly shows the handheld. There are also props that you can buy and the images they had on the various websites were a lot more detailed. From here I was able to build a simple model from within Tinkercad .
